United Way of Western Connecticut
of Matching Remaining
United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Southern Litchfield County—New Milford, Kent, Sherman, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Warren and Washington—with a focus on hard-working, struggling households that we call ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). 38% of all Connecticut households experience financial hardship, as ALICE or living in poverty. UWWC works to provide long-term solutions to the challenges facing our neighbors living paycheck-to-paycheck, including food insecurity, financial instability, and access to educational support. We mobilize our community’s best resources and trusted partners to join us in helping ALICE. We inspire individuals to join the fight against our community’s most daunting social crises; to reach out to those who need help and hope.
Your Give Local donation will support United Way programs in Greater New Milford that offer food security to ALICE residents struggling paycheck-to-paycheck. ALICE households seldom qualify for public assistance like food stamps. Because of the high cost of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish, too many residents must opt for more filling, less nutrient-dense foods, and often skip meals when the bills are due. With your help, fresh, healthy food will be provided locally in New Milford at no cost through our Mobile Food Pantry and GROW (GRoceries On Wheels) programs.
