United Way of Western Connecticut
of Matching Remaining
United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) is committed to ensuring every household is financially stable and every child enters school ready to learn, and graduates ready to succeed. UWWC is particularly focused on a population we identify as ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), with incomes above the Federal Poverty Level, but below a basic cost-of-living threshold. An Oct. 2016 report published by United Way found that combined with those who are struggling below poverty, 28% of New Milford households experience financial hardship. UWWC is uniquely positioned to bring together the resources and people to work together to improve the lives of ALICE in the short-, intermediate, and long-term. Our work includes meeting basic needs, increasing food security and financial stability, and investing in early childhood education and school readiness, all with the goal to help each individual and family in need to become economically self-sufficient.
Your Give Local donation will support United Way programs that offer assistance to ALICE households struggling paycheck-to-paycheck in Southern Litchfield County. By leveraging the collective power of the community, United Way programs provide local 2-1-1 crisis relief, work to alleviate food insecurity, provide clothing and supplies for school children, offer free financial education and one-on-one budget coaching, and help hardworking residents build emergency savings. Together we are working to create an environment in Southern Litchfield County where all individuals and families are self-sufficient and can achieve financial independence.
