The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens

The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens, located on the site of a renovated gas station in the very heart of Washington Depot, is dedicated to providing the community with a central venue for educational and cultural events, community gatherings, and a farmers market in a beautiful central setting. In 2016, The Washington Park Foundation (the non-profit that purchased and renovated the empty lot) dedicated the community building and park in honor of the many donors whose generosity helped bring this dream to reality; and especially the late Judy Black (1948 – 2015), who donated not only her leadership gift but also her vision and her garden designs. In Judy’s own words, “I wish to create a garden, a place to relax, to dream, to experience the unfolding of nature. I wish to create a park, a place for friends, neighbors, to play, to further the spirit of the unique, vibrant and beautiful community of Washington.” Events at the Park are open to residents of Washington as well as all the towns of Northwest Connecticut.
Your generous support will make it possible for the Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens to expand its offering of community events and programming (both our own events and those of other non-profits who use the venue), including mixed-media art exhibitions, performances, lectures, workshops, and family movie nights. Specifically, through Give Local we seek to raise funds to purchase the AudioVisual (AV) equipment, including a large screen, a projector, and sound equipment, required for many of the events to be held in the venue. We look forward to your support!
