Partners for Sustainable Healthy Communities, inc.
of Matching Remaining
Founded in 2007, Partners for Sustainable Healthy Communities models and nurtures community-based programs that connect sustainable agriculture, local food and active, healthy lifestyles. Crosscutting initiatives are focused on increasing access to high-quality local food, support for the region's farmers and nutrition education plus physical activity programs for kids. Community benefits are delivered by the year-round Litchfield Hills Farm-Fresh Market; Rod Dixon's KiDSMARATHON® Connecticut; The Farmer's Table© dinners and educational forums; Nourishing School Gardens; and the innovative Northwest Connecticut Food Hub (see link to YouTube video: "Local Food in Every shopping Cart").
You are invited to become a community partner in connecting thoughtful eaters with a food system that is rapidly reinventing itself. Agriculture has always played an important role in a vibrant Northwest Connecticut. This remains true today, even as the new "local food system" emerges. By contributing to the 2017 launch of the non-profit Northwest Connecticut Food Hub, you will help to increase access and consumption of local and Connecticut GROWN farm products. The goal of a Food Hub is to enable access to farm-fresh, consistent high quality local food for consumers, through a wholesale distribution system that is economically sustainable for farmers, distributors and retailers that participate in the food system network. Connecticut's farms are the backbone of our regional food shed, bringing the bounty from their fields to your tables. We are committed to helping farms remain viable and to promoting healthy food and healthy Connecticut communities.
