Merwinsville Hotel Restoration, Inc.
The Merwinsville Hotel Restoration is located in a small hamlet of New Milford, and since its inception in 1971, our mission has been to continue the restoration of one of the last standing track-side station hotels east of the Mississippi (which opened its doors in 1843 - 175 years ago!) We hold several events throughout the year to not only raise money, but to showcase a building that is unique and historical. Through tremendous volunteer and local fundraising efforts, the Hotel has been saved from certain destruction. Visit our website for some pretty scary “before” pictures and some awesome "after" pictures! Our “Hotel Happenings” include our annual Columbus Weekend Arts & Fine Crafts Show, old-time Christmas Shoppe, Spring Art & Fine Crafts Show, “Reel” Readers Movie/Book Club, and several other events sprinkled throughout the year. All these diverse events makes our "hidden gem of a building" the social, cultural, and educational center for the community.
We're very excited to report that we've begun addressing some of our structural issues in our third floor ballroom. We've hired a local Gaylordsville contractor who has done a lot of the structural work needed to stabilize the east end of the ballroom (the road side). In order to continue the work into the next stage which includes shoring up the railroad (western side of the building), we'd like to earmark any monies collected during "Give Local" toward the continuation of this very extensive renovation. Thank you!
