Litchfield Performing Arts' mission is to educate and inspire young people to be confident, creative, expressive individuals through challenging programs in jazz music and the performing arts. LPA is dedicated to providing first-class arts education opportunities to all, especially those who would otherwise be unable to afford them. LPA does this through Litchfield Jazz Camp (1997), Litchfield Jazz Festival (1996), and Project Poetry Live (1993). Litchfield Jazz Camp serves 350-400 students each year and is non-competitive. No child is turned away for lack of funds. Litchfield Jazz Festival features two days of jazz on its Mainstage and Student Stage with art exhibits, great food and drink, artist talks and other educational programs. Project Poetry Live brings together middle school students in Litchfield and Hartford counties to write poetry and transform their words into music, dance and visual art under the guidance of professional artists from Connecticut and New York City.
Give Local funds will be used to support and bring music education to disadvantaged youth. Specifically, funds will be used to 1) provide scholarship support for children demonstrating financial need to attend Litchfield Jazz Camp and 2) provide support for Litchfield Jazz Camp student activities/performance on the student stage at the Litchfield Jazz Festival.
