FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern CT
of Matching Remaining
The mission of FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of NW CT is to meet the most basic of human needs - food, shelter and hope. At the FISH Homeless Shelter and FISH Food Pantry, we recognize the very human, social welfare challenges of families, individuals and veterans. At the 35 bed FISH Homeless Shelter (last year serving 147 - 119 adults, 19 veterans and 9 children), we encourage residents, through case management, to connect to resources, medical and mental health needs, employment opportunities, and housing possibilities to lead to a homeless resident's stable, independent living future. We have high expectations in our shelter to keep our residents safe and secure as they await housing, in a family friendly communal setting. At the FISH Food Pantry, FISH distributed food to provide 108,439 meals to 522 area families/1753 individuals in 2017. We recognize the courage it takes to come forward and humbly ask for help.
The funds generously donated through the Give Local campaign will be used directly towards operating both the FISH Homeless Shelter and FISH Food Pantry. FISH depends on the generosity and donations of the area community to help our neighbors in need. Every homeless person is an individual facing tough, economic times; and every hungry family has their own unique story. We at FISH NW CT strive to re-store the confidence and self-worth of those who are the most vulnerable and seek our help.
